Tyler’s Shenandoah Private Drift Sesh

Friday, it was the day before the event. In preparation for it I had purchased more batteries for the camera as my Canon M50’s lifespan is not very long and I had planned on shooting all day. As it would go I always tend to prep prior to events to ensure photographing goes as smooth as possible. Though this time it would be a tad different. The track was over 2 hours away from our home base in Richmond so it was necessary that nothing would be forgotten as once I was on the road there would be no turning back.

This would be imperative as I would not be going alone and had actually made plans to stay with a friend that night prior and catch a ride with him as he would be towing his vehicle to and from the event. As I packed my bag I checked the weather as this vent was in the mountains it was important that I dress properly to make sure I wouldn’t be cold but also not hot. As I checked I was informed that the high of the day would be 50 with clear skies. To me that means A long sleeve shirt and pants would suffice. After packing accordingly I headed out.

As the morning came, 5AM had quickly approached. The evening prior after arriving at my friends Nick’s house we had spent the remaining evening making sure he was prepped for tomorrow, washing the cars, and then making the questionable choice of getting fishbowl margs that would lead to a very groggy morning for me. Nonetheless we were packed and ready to go. AS we were gearing up to head out we were met by another friend who was also attending the event and had planned on street driving his car to and from - that’s what I would call brave and confident!

The drive was textbook, early enough to avoid any heavy traffic and no issues to be had from the convoy - until we arrived at the track. As we entered the gates 5 past 9AM, it began snowing - this was not in the forecast. That’s right, I was dressed poorly with no jacket in sight. Not only was it snowing the wind was brutal. Though despite the weather everyone persevered. Thankfully the snow would stop, only to then rain, then the sun would come out and it would be beautiful and picturesc as the track was nuzzled right in between surrounding mountains giving a gorgeous view on all sides.

But I digress as despite the weather and my ill-planned outfit, the drivers and their abilities were the real show stopper! Many of them were familiar with one another and had put in numerous track time together at other events so hitting the track and shredding the layout took little to no time at all. Truly everyone here would consider each other friends and becasue of this makes the day that much more enjoyable when help is needed and jokes are made. Below are just some of the photos from that day. Enjoy
